AI versus Human Customer Service

This blog has nothing to do with Cleaning---forewarned


First of all a human is writing this blog. Blogs are becoming solely generated by AI now. People are not doing it. The person just types in a general idea of what to write and the AI does the rest. Sad.


How many of you have dealt with the AI customer service representative? They have been around a while if you think about it. The gate keepers to a business that routes your call to the appropriate department. Now the AI tries to handle the questions too. I say tries because for me it is never seamless or pleasant. As a person who thinks on his own, with multi-symbol words I can never get the AI to understand what I am asking. I think they are programmed to answer common questions.


I am the guy that gets annoyed at the thought of having to even call customer service because I already know I'm going to have to battle with the AI. So I try everything to avoid it. Which is probably the goal of the company. Make calling their customer service number so annoying that people stop doing it, and just leave them alone.


So I'm on razor's edge just to call. Then when the AI starts pretending to be a person typing I get even more creeped out. Yes listen closely there is a keyboard sound in the background as the AI talks to you. Now I just say "Representative" 3 times and that still conjures up a human, after the AI tells me that the human can't possibly help me unless I tell the AI why I'm calling.


I tried to tell the AI why I'm calling and each time they want to tell me my account balance, or when I last made a payment, even though that isn't why I'm calling. I can get that on my own of course. I'm not that simple minded, but the AI thinks it knows best.


You do realize that as companies give these AI representatives more latitude they will start to tell you things that they want to tell you. And you will be the one at their mercy. The 3 "Representative" magic trick will be gone. We will then be stuck fighting with a AI that is pretending to be typing, as they tell you what they want to tell you. The satisfaction survey? haha, that is computer monitored. Guess what, they will manipulate the results so the AI is getting 5 stars.
