Cleaning Plexiglass

Plexiglass is being installed in various work environments from retail to office settings. At some point they will need to be cleaned.

Before you or your cleaning team attempts to clean your plexiglass/acrylic panels it would be highly advisable to have a written plan, and training. For example by aggressively rubbing the plexiglass or acrylic, you may accidentally scratch the surface.

1) Clear the area of debris, accessories, and any other items that may be in the working space. You want a clear area to work

2) Always use a micro-fiber cloth with soapy water to clean the entire surface area

3) After wetting the cloth, lightly blot the surface rather than using a lot of pressure as you wipe

4) After wiping the entire piece of acrylic, use the dry side of the cloth to buff the area and clean off any remaining liquid or suds.

5) Buffing or polishing the plexiglass surface reduces the potential of future stains

6) Step away for a few minutes and then check for any remaining strains

7) Any remaining stains are addressed with a rewet cloth, and dry again

  • DO NOT USE paper towels because they will not remove scratches and may even cause them. Stick with micro-fiber type of cloth.

  • Avoid ammonia based products, like Windex or other home glass cleaners, because they contain harmful chemicals that will actually damage the surface leaving it cloudy looking. Soapy water is the safest and most effective cleaning solution for acrylic.
